Chores

I feel like I'm finally doing something successfully as a mom...chores!

I was assigned chores growing up, and remember washing dishes at a young age.  I believe my parents taught me well.  I've always asked my girls to do jobs here and there, and even made a job chart one time where they could check off when they did different jobs around the house.  BUT, I needed something more, and they wanted something more.

So, a few weeks ago, I finally made two lists.  One was a list of "Daily Responsibilities" that Sydney & Jenna have.  There are 3 sections--Morning, Afternoon/After School, and Bedtime.  It's pretty much a written summary of what they already did or were expected to do.  I think Sydney does really well having a checklist to work from, so she has loved it.  I also did a list of "Daily Chores" for each girl.  I started out simple & only did one chore per girl, per day.  Sydney's chores are:  gathering trash, folding laundry, emptying the dishwasher, dusting, and wiping down the bathroom.  Jenna's chores are:  taking their laundry to my bathroom, folding laundry, emptying the dishwasher, dusting, and wiping down the bathroom.

So far, we have been quite consistent in getting chores done.  I love that it's helping ME to be consistent.  (My bathrooms have been mostly cleaned 2 weeks in a row!!)  I also love that it's giving me focused time with my girls to work with and teach them.  I know that assigning chores & following through really isn't a huge thing, but as a mom who struggles to feel like I'm doing much good, I'll pat myself on the back for this one!

Good job! I've been needing to come up with something like this for Matty but never seem to get around to it.

I think you would get even more time together and they would learn to be more responsible if you all came over to my house and cleaned my bathroom ;)

We are chore list people as well! I'm always so thankful for their help. I like to make my lists for this kids with pictures of their chores. Aubryn and Jaden can read their lists but they still love the pics.

Can I get a copy of everything you've written down?? I was having a breakdown the other day not knowing, well, how to run a house basically! Any advice would also be much appreciated!
